The Father’s Greatness: We Can’t Keep Quiet

Aug 31, 2018 | Posted by Margo Fieseler | Devotionals |

They called them back and warned them that they were on no account ever again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John spoke right back, “Whether it’s right in God’s eyes to listen to you rather than to God, you decide. As for us, there’s no question—we can’t keep quiet about what we’ve seen and heard.”

Acts 4:18-20 MSG

Peter and John are in a bit of a predicament. Actually, a monumental  situation! But God is already on-the-scene and at-the-ready!

After witnessing a complete healing, “by means of his (Jesus’) name this man stands before you healthy and whole”, the rulers and leaders, seeing this man whole, told them “to never speak or teach in the name of Jesus again.” Hmmmm, that didn’t sit well with these disciples.

Peter and John, experiencing the power and working of the Holy Spirit, couldn’t and wouldn’t keep quiet. How could they? These mere men could never thwart what God had done. So Peter and John stood there, confident. Just two laymen with no training in Scripture or formal education, however, they were companions of Jesus.

That’s why I can’t keep quiet either! As for me, there is no question. I’ve seen the working of the Holy Spirit personally in my life. I live before an Audience of One. What can mere mortal do to me? I will testify His name and power until I see Him face-to-face. Bring on the skeptics.

After all, I am a companion of Jesus. That’s all I will ever need.

FROM THE COMMUNUTY

Yesterday my mom fell again walking outdoors at her apartment…She is okay & was released from hospital after a few hours. On the drive to West Bend after we got the call…I found complete peace just loving my God & knowing He was in control of the situation no matter what it was. And then reading your devotion today made my heart cry out with a love for Him that can’t be put into words.
Thank you & thank you & thank you for listening & obeying the Lord.
